The Ground Zero Mosque Debate has been interesting. The vast majority of Americans oppose it, while about a third of Americans support the building of the mosque. This issue has been debated quite a bit on this blog, and my opposition to the mosque is set forth in my post Cynical Brilliance which may be read [...]
Canadian free press: Obama Barking Up Wrong Tree? Like a whiny infant irritated by diaper rash and sour pablum, President Obama recently exposed his own inability to handle criticism and, really, opposition of any sort.
I’ve really neglected this, haven’t I? School starts ~34 hours from now. What a distressing thought. Anyway, I wrote a little something when I was bored, feel free to read some symbolism into it. Chapter One. Light and dark, sun and moon, changing shifting shapes surrounded me. I knew what it was and what it
To her affiliated credit, PEN Canada endorsed the repealing of Sec. 13 of the CHRC in supporting Steyn and MacLeans. And yet Margy the PEN member endorses the Bloc while railing against SUN TV's application for a spot on our airwaves. We all agreed that she was entitled to soak up government grants throughout her lifetime in building her career but why do we still indulge her. She is so totally consumed in the misguided belief that Canadians still "need" to hear her guidance, to hear the PC pablum coming out of her best before dated mind.
This is not so hot to me. I think the flabby writing and the poorly introduced sites were a victim of not ghosts but of someone who did not know how to capture attention of a reader. I finally took the dive and looked at the mental hospital...give me a break...an abandoned building. I've worked in hospitals that looked like that, and they were not closed down! There must be some place in the USA that has a trifid or a vampire or some giant bat. This is pablum presented cold and flat. Sorry

Went to the bookstore to hang out for a few hours today. I used to love that, but it’s been years since I did. Books are so overpriced. Well the %40 off any book coupon got me in the door. I was gonna find a book to make them hurt, a big honking $50 one [...]
How does Nudge work? Very simply, Nudge is about limiting choices in order to “nudge” you in what they have determined is the “right” direction.Or if nudge doesn't work they use the arbitrary whims of bureaucratic bad faith to regulate those they deem malefactors out of existence. At this point the so-called progressive are aggressively interpreting any number of laws to shut down or greatly inhibit how Americans go about their lives. When congress hasn't outright ceded authority(which they have no real right to do) the Executive has come up with dubious interpretations and assertions of what is or isn't to be enforced. They ignore court orders that stay their hand. Arbitrary enforcement of the laws is tyranny. Holding up the enforcement of duly executed laws for political gains is the stuff of third world banana republics. When the rule of law breaks down the arbitrary and capricious rule of men creates doubt and inhibits freedom. Constitutional duties, clearly defined, are deprecated while they proceed in areas that are not or never were considered proper areas of Federal prerogative. In a country that was truly governed by integrity as opposed to faction the malfeasance and utter ignorance of the law to the detriment of our liberty that has been demonstrated by this group would engender the powers that be to begin proceedings for the removal of this growing blight. Here is a nice example of how they intend to use whimsical bureaucratic process to tie the health insurance industry(and thus yoke us to the state for our very existence) with 100lb concrete blocks on their ankles and expect them to swim. All with the pre-packaged diatribe that the "market failed" in order to have explicit control of your life and justify how a government which can't do something as simple as PATROL A BORDER is going to make something as complex and personal as health care cheaper, better and more available. http://www.nationalreview.com/critical-condition/245625/centrally-planning-market-failure-avik-roy Click also on the Robert Book link as it will take you to a more extensive exegesis on the subject. The healthcare law is obviously set up for this administration to set standards that no health insurance business, or any business can operate under. That simpleton Sibelius can set it up so health insurance companies must operate at a loss. There is only one entity in the US that can do that and it isn't the insurance companies. The preternatural arrogance, intellectual conceit and utter mendacity of our self anointed betters is becoming more manifest everyday. They are Machiavellian and convinced of their own superiority and will use any duplicitous means to sate their bloated egos and validate their unending self esteem. They need to control and insult us everyday that we as unenlightened troglodytes can't recognize their brilliant utterances for the genius that they represent. Of course we do know what it is they spout as it is the failed litany of the "progressive" movement which is the vanguard of reactionary movements which seek to re-enslave the human race just as medieval potentates subjugated the vassals and serfs. The King was all and all was the King. All land and economy was the Kings to dispense how does this set up really differ from what those who call themselves "progressives" who wish the state to dictate the distribution of sustenance based on some perverted notion of grievance and "fairness". In order to make these decisions the population must be shackled any notion that the individual has sovereignty over his lot in life must be extinguished by propaganda or physical coercion. Any time a person raises himself(except of course those who spout the progressive pablum) above the crowd the first thought in the "progressives" mind is that person must have done something illegal or immoral. They can't conceive that any one but those with "progressive" ideals can be a success. This is because in practice the only way one progresses in the progressive society is to play the system and cut the throat of your competitor as in the eyes of most "progressives" success is a zero sum gain. This is why the market puzzles them they don't or can't understand that free exchange produces multi-millions of win-win situations every day. The producer gets what he want the customer gets what he wants hence win-win. This is the essence of freedom and ordered liberty in this country. Millions of ordinary people free to contract and interact and equal in the eyes of the law.
I took the summer off from writing this column. Now, I'm refreshed, recharged and raring to go. I've always felt that if I didn't have anything worthwhile to say, I wouldn't waste your time with my mindless pablum. But, in this instance, I do have several exciting things to tell you about that we have been working on here at the Press. First up, beginning in October, we are relaunching our women's magazine, 40-74, and rebranding it In Jersey, The Magazine for Gracious Living. I realize some of you don't get the magazine. It's mailed to 38,000 households with family income levels north of $150,000 a year and is available in select stores at no cost. It is a demographic that is highly desired by advertisers. As you know, New Jersey is a very wealthy state with some of the highest incomes -- and taxes -- in the nation. Compared to my humble -- and quite broke -- state of Georgia, we couldn't afford a stamp for such an upscale magazine, let alone a page. But it's nice to know that the well-off folks here in Jersey can afford it. So, if you are in the income bracket, you really ought to get this magazine. It will have cool new features geared toward women, and a few men, with locally written content right here from the Shore. It will appear monthly, including special issues that spotlight fashionable homes, brides and luxurious living. And speaking of women, I have to give a shout-out to Patti Martin, our JerseyShoreMomsLikeMe.com site coordinator who has taken our moms site from oblivion to number four in the country in page views among Gannett newspapers. This is another product that caters to women. Thanks to our many moms who chat on the site daily, our traffic has broken records. If you haven't checked it out, you should. It's a local social networking tool that is topical and relevant. But we didn't stop there. We've been busy this summer reinvesting in our content and improving our offerings. As you might know, we recently beefed up our Statehouse bureau by sending veteran journalist John Schoonejongen there to be the Statehouse editor. He is a top-shelf editor who knows what matters to our readers. He'll cut through the garbage by leading a team of five in Trenton to give you the best political coverage in New Jersey, including that other paper off the Turnpike that masquerades as local. I've charged our staff with digging deep into the daily dealings in Trenton and providing aggressive watchdog journalism and investigations that will keep you informed. Following a reorganization, the local news department also has been tasked with following the money and looking into how your tax dollars are being spent in the dozens of municipalities we cover. It's all a part of our aggressive commitment to provide local news that matters. But our new posture is not limited to news. I have asked our sports department to provide even greater and deeper coverage, especially for local high schools. We added a reporter to do more feature writing. Starting next week, we are branding our coverage for high school and college football as the RedZone. We will also have a corresponding web presence that will show the high school game of the week, with an announcer and graphics. Also next Saturday, we're debuting APPOnline.tv, our new video channel. You'll get to try it out with our high school game of the week. But beyond that, we'll offer breaking news, weather and traffic in the months ahead. We might even experiment with news updates live from our newsroom. So, we've been busy this summer improving and updating our products, in print and online. There is a lot more good stuff coming. As always, let me know what you think.
This time I enjoy both Halloween and Thanksgiving in the institution.
You've all seen politicians do interviews where they seem to spew pablum upon the electorate. Today, I'll share with you one such attempt, and why it failed with me. We'll also cover Greece and global credit issues - no, they're not fixed, and we'll talk about why those who are counting on further levitation in the markets may be disappointed.

The pablum's intention is a little more focused than has been stated. It's about generations, as in "I've lived in Humboldt County for 6 generations." Bonnie hasn't. It's Virginia's principle qualification. So all this time-slurring and great-great-grand-papping suggests (even though Herb's comments say otherwise) that the Neelys are of the ages here, hence are real Humboldters fit to lead. As a Southern Humboldt sage once said, "You can never come from Humboldt County for long enough." But Bonnie sure can try.
"This ad's goal is to make voters comfortable with Bonnie." Yeah, I get that. I also think "pure pablum* for the masses" IS a pretty fair description of the ad, and any ad deisgned to "make voters comfortable" with a candidate by portraying their family members. (*Pablum is a brand of soft, bland cereal for infants). But, like I said above, I'm sure it DOES have some positive impact on some potential voters. When it comes to politics, some adults like theirs served up like soft, bland infant cereals, and some adults are so infantalized politically that this is about all they can stomach. And, as Mitch points out, compared to the heaping dishes of gutter-bilge soup that pass for campaign ads all too often, well, I suppose a few servings of soft, bland infant cereal may be welcome at times.
Kinda have to agree with HiFi that this is "pure pablum for the masses." Nothing in this ad gives anyone any rational reason to vote for or against Bonnie Neeley. I mean what is the campaign trying to show, that she's from "good stock?" That being said, I'm sure that such ads DO have a positive impact on some voters. I'm just not one of them...I couldn't care less what the candidate's parents did for a living, it's basically irrelevant.
I would be glad to vote for Herb Neely in his younger days & I'm glad to here he is still with us. I thought he died a number of years ago. Jeff Neely is a great guy & was surprised when he retired several years ago. I would be glad to vote for him, he is smart, level headed & knows the problems of business owners. However, Herb & Jeff aren't running, neither is OH Bass, Abraham Lincoln or Ma & Pa Kettle. This ad is pure pablum for the masses. Who do you expect her father & brother to support, Virginia? Only that would be news. The choice is Bonnie or Virginia.
Well, there's a surprise! I can only wonder what sort of garbage this kid's parents fed him with his Pablum? I think they ought to move out, as well, and take their garbage with them!
Why does this surprise anyone/ The bobbleheads at both ends of the spectrum hated the speech, so real people liked what they heard. Maybe the real people actually listened to President Obama instead of waiting for him to fly into a rage so a cable news associate producer intern trainee would have something else to add to the endless loop of pablum they serve up. Hmmmmm - who's out of touch?
Recently an extremely Liberal Magazine spouting much pablum re liberal ideas in the US sold for $1US Dollar and made it through US Bankruptcy Court while FOX News and Glenn Beck seem to be rolling in Money and enjoy extraordinary viewership -- the numbers are readily available and you can judge for yourself ! Seemd to me Conservatism is on a major roll in the good 'ole US of A . . .
Adam B. Vary, your take is much more zippily written than the usual pablum that comes from Nicole, so please! sub for her more often! She is a pile of verbal clip-art and non-thinking regurgitation of received wisdom from Variety and the Hollywood Reporter and shows the mental acuity of a ripe potato. Not to be mean or anything.
My blogging output volume has dropped to a trickle, and what little that is coming out is just pablum. Despite the relative quiescence of this blog, the blogger himself is busier than a one-legged cat trying to scoot across a frozen pond. After some years in the industrial setting I am able to see why [...]
